I’m Dr. Victoria Buttery, a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of Resilience Psychological Services. I work with Christian adults navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, PTSD, and personal growth concerns.

My approach is warm, practical, and collaborative. I often work with people who are thoughtful and motivated, but feel stuck in patterns that are difficult to change on their own. Therapy with me involves both deeper understanding and practical application. We take time to understand what is happening beneath the surface, while also focusing on tools and steps that can make a difference in daily life.

I believe the work of healing involves more than simply talking about what is wrong. Insight matters, but so does what we do with it. In our work together, we may focus on learning new skills, responding to thoughts and emotions with more awareness, engaging honestly with pain, and taking meaningful steps toward the life, relationships, and character you hope to cultivate.

About Me

My Christian faith shapes how I understand healing, suffering, growth, and life. I believe God is ultimately the source of healing and transformation, and that therapy can be one way people receive support, gain insight, practice new responses, and participate in the work God may be doing in their lives.

Faith-integrated therapy does not mean forcing quick spiritual answers or bypassing pain. In our work together, there is room for honesty, grief, uncertainty, prayer, reflection on Scripture, and practical steps toward change. Wherever you are in your faith journey, whether you have followed Christ for decades, are newly returning, or feel unsure where you stand, you are welcome here.

Faith and Therapy

Specialized Experience in PTSD Treatment

I have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of PTSD and trauma-related distress. From 2016 to 2023, I worked as a staff psychologist and team lead at the VA San Diego Healthcare System in clinics focused on Military Sexual Trauma, Interpersonal Trauma, and PTSD. I also served as the facility’s PTSD Director.

In that work, I provided PTSD assessment, feedback, individual therapy, and group therapy, and I trained and supervised psychology trainees in trauma-focused treatment. My approach to trauma therapy is grounded, collaborative, and informed by research-supported treatments for PTSD.

I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from American University in Washington, DC, in 2014. My graduate training was supported by a Department of Homeland Security fellowship, and my training and research background have shaped my commitment to thoughtful, research-supported therapy that is both clinically grounded and personally meaningful.

I completed my postdoctoral training at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and later served in clinical leadership and training roles. I also held a faculty appointment in the UCSD Department of Psychiatry as a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor.

Throughout my career, I have provided individual and group therapy, supervised psychology trainees, given talks locally and nationally, and helped clinics implement national guidelines and best practices for PTSD treatment.

I opened Resilience Psychological Services in 2021 to provide thoughtful, faith-integrated, research-supported therapy for adults seeking healing, clarity, and meaningful change.

A Little More Personally

Outside of my work, I enjoy rooting for Philadelphia sports teams (Go Birds!), hiking, reading spy novels, baking anything chocolate, going on walks with my Cavapoo, Beau, and spending time with my family.

If you think we may be a good fit, I invite you to schedule a brief phone consultation.
